Cyclists?

Postby KSSunflower » Sat Jun 04, 2016 11:32 pm

I recently got a bicycle and started riding. My question is about the seat. I noticed after long rides my rear and pubic area get sore. I went for a ride tonight and when I got off my bike I felt the soreness again but then a rush of sensation went straight to my crotch. I was a little bit afraid to move, partly because my neighbor was out on his porch. Anyway, being new to this, I didn't know if that was normal. Has anybody ever experienced that?

You can buy special cycling spandex underwear that has padding in the crotch and underwear area, haha the girls Ive gone mt biking with all use it and say they wont ride without it. Its common to be sore there after a long ride even for seasoned riders. Let me know if you have any other cycling questions.

You know, I saw those pants while at the bike shop and thought how weird. I guess not. Lol. I wasn't planning on being a super serious rider. Well, I'm not. My first night riding though was so freeing and calming, so I've been riding a good amount. It's been good for me mentally as well as physically. Thanks for the info.

You could also try a new seat that is more padded but I think those cycling shorts are the best way to go. Be sure to wear a helmet!

Have you had a bike fitting? Any bike store can do it for you. They make sure everything is in the proper place/height for where your body needs it. It could also be the saddle you have. You may need to upgrade to a better one that is made specifically for reducing the pressure placed in that area. I've experienced the same feeling you mention and the proper saddle and adjustments made all the difference in the world.

Thanks sportsguy. I don't know what all is involved in a fitting but the guy at the bike shop did make sure the seat was at a good height. I opted not to change the seat out. It felt fine at the time.

There is a lot more to it than just the saddle height. It may need to be tilted, moved forward, back, etc. Handlebar position could be a factor in it as well. You may even need to test a few saddles to see what is most comfortable for you.

Lol, I think I'd wreck my bike! I'm still trying to get my riding skills back. It's doesn't all come back to you when you haven't ridden in over a decade. I can imagine it'd be motivating. Though, I think it could make one more sore.

I'll go back to the shop and have them go through everything, sportsguy.
