Being asked by Bishop/Stake President about masturbation

Postby Bryan_LDS_husband » Thu Jun 08, 2017 2:39 pm

Great discussion! I appreciate all the input and various points of view.

For the first time in my life (I'm 47) the topic of masturbation came up in a TR interview a few weeks ago.

The stake president, after asking the chastity question, asked me if I participate in pornography. I answered (honestly) "No."

He then said, "Its a huge problem in the church and it seems to be growing. Pornography and masturbation usually go together. So, no issues there?"

He didn't come right out and ask me if I masturbate, so I again just said "no, no issues there."

I don't know what I would have done or said if he HAD asked me point blank. But, he didn't, so it's a mute point.

And there is the problem. You have leadership roulette where a leader feels he has the right to deviate from recommend questions, or has been instructed to deviate from another leader who feels the same.

I heard recording where a bishop asked 8 years old for baptism if they masterbated. A father secretly recorded it for proof because who would ever believe it.

Best response I've ever heard was to ask the question back when was the last time he ever masterbated, or ask if he his seeking a dirty story to get off. Last one may give an orthodox person a heart attack

i was asked as a youth for a youth temple recommend. it didn't feel right as this man was quite elderly (late 70s) and had just become our branch president. i lied as i didnt feel his question was appropriate. some time later i was given the oppertunity to read a recommend interview book. it clearly states that you should not expand on the questions outlined in the interview section and when i looked it was only "do you live the law of chastity" kinda made me feel that he just wanted to ask for his own reasons which troubled me a bit. he wasnt branch pres very long. glad ive moved since though.
